The three pieces in the center are the front panels and i started with those using the 1/2″ ply. To save money we diyed a simple wood range hood cover for our farmhouse kitchen.

We shared the steps we took to build our diy wood range hood cover. My range hood sticks out 6 inches from the front of the cabinets, so i ripped these support pieces so that they would stick out 6.5 inches from the cabinets, allowing 1/2 inch between the front of the range hood and the range hood cover. I made my frame to end one inch below the hood vent, as well as to extend one inch beyond the hood vent in the front.
As you can see, i left some space (the thickness of the boards i was using) at the front of each piece. Build a custom decorative box to cover your old range hood. We then hung the frame on the wall, installed the broan insert, and faced the frame with 1/4″ mdf and then moulding.
Insert screws through both back braces at all stud locations to secure to wall (image 2). This designer style hood range cover creates character and a beautiful focal point for any kitchen! If installing in a kitchen where cabinets flank range hood, insert a couple of wood screws into adjacent cabinet frames through side panels.
How to make a range hood fan cover the basic idea was that we built a frame to house the broan hood fan insert out of (mainly) 3/4″ plywood. Then measure and cut the top pieces and affix with the brad nailer and nails, as the photo shows. I cut down two matching pieces of wood that would become the sides of the vent hood.
